Twelfth House

The twelfth house is a cadent house. Its natural sign ruler is Pisces and its natural planetary ruler is Neptune.

That which is hidden or below the surface, karma, self-undoing, soul growth, hidden strengths and hidden weaknesses, dreams, private affairs, lost items, hospitals and prisons, spiritual studies.

This house is typically considered to be negative and dark, the psychic garbage pail of the zodiac. In Medieval times, it was known as the house of troubles and indicated possibilities of imprisonment, illness, secret enemies, poverty, and dire misfortune. While such possibilities exist with this house, its core meaning is deeper.

Twelfth house signifies expenditure, monetary loss, debt, punishment pronounced by lawful court, enjoyment and suffering, information about enemy, bedroom enjoyment, expenditure for just cause, salvation etc.

The Tradition classifies houses because, on the one hand, their influence on an individual is not equally important, and on the other hand, they have different specificities in terms of characterology. There are three classifications. The first one deals with accentuation, and the other two, with quadrants and hemisphere emphasis.

It corresponds to the native's inner self, ordeals underwent his whole life through, hidden enemies, and serious illnesses. It is related to places of confinement such as hospitals, prisons, convents, etc., and also includes solitude and major inner crises.

The Twelfth house represents the way we explore and deal with our inner depths in solitude and silence, marking a difference between spiritual growth and escapism. It is through this house that we transcend through the definitions of reality that confine us, creating a desire to move through and beyond what may be causing pain within our lives. Planets in the Twelfth house have a subtle, rather than a strong, influence, with the house working on a subconscious level of our mind.

The Twelfth house represents how we build our own inner strength to overcome limitations, fears and sorrows – allowing for individuals to adapt to the collective. Within this house we are able to come to terms with self-undoing by working out why we are not completely free, where we stand in our own way and who we desire to become.

Karma, betrayal, sacrifice, secrets and limitations play a strong role in the Twelfth house. It reflects our subconscious and emotionally based feelings of responsibility, describing the extent we feel guilt for problems within the larger world. The house is most commonly associated with psychic sensitivity, spirituality, hidden understandings and awareness, omens, the need for time alone, the subconscious, karma and traits existent but unknown to one's self.

The twelfth house represents the personal unconscious, the parts of ourselves that we've disowned — all that is hidden from our conscious perception. Here lie the dregs of early defeats and disillusionments, which ultimately were repressed and not integrated into the rest of our personality. Here, too, are aspects of ourselves that for one reason or another we don't want to express openly to others. These hidden parts of ourselves often come out later in life, surfacing as fears, weaknesses, or phobias that work against us.

The twelfth house in the horoscope represents all the energies that are beyond human control, beyond our normal understanding. With a twelfth house there is not much you can do, but rather learn to BE, and accept. It is not an easy house in this society that values tangibility so much, and attempts to shut out the dreamers, the people who know that they cannot control themselves or their life. It is known in traditional astrology as the house of hidden enemies, of incarceration, and loneliness. It doesn’t have to be so, but someone with a strong 12th house never really feels like they belong here to this saturnine society.

Why is this house so feared? 12th house people have a wish for some security from the busy everyday world that seem so alien to them. In this house the eradication of the ego is not just words, it is an actual happening that is experienced with its accompanying fears, need for time alone, open boundaries that cause the person to look for shelters.

The boundaries between real and not real are not so easily defined in this house, a huge longing for simplicity, for the easiness of being without the need to prove yourself resides here, and a connection to all energies and forces be they good or bad.

The twelfth house always suggests life beyond the norm. It could be the outsider living in a small apartment in a crowded city, the homeless, the one who chooses to live in a tent, and on the other scale, someone who is very rich, very famous, and therefore needs to live secluded and protected.

The 12th house is the house of secrets only because it is hard to explain to the rational mind, what it is meant by feelings, by intuitions, there is no proof in the 12th house, chaos rules, and we feel out of control of our minds, our behavior, our obsessions, our addictions. The only way to cure any of the above is by faith.

In reincarnation terms, this is the house is always connected to the mass karma of humanity. The longing for the Oneness. This is the house of surrender, and allowing the energies to clear the Ego from residue, in order for spirit to shine in. I personally believe that in future as was in past societies, this house will get back to its position of prominence, instead of the fear and misunderstandings it receives now.

Planets in the 12th house in the horoscope will bring you situations where you feel out of control, where you know that there is something more, but cannot explain it. You will attempt to hide, evade, and feel different. You will either need help with expressing these planets constructively, or shut them out as much as you can. Therapy will not work here. Meditations, healthy living and faith are the only way to go.

If you have a 12th house planet/s, please remember that there is a limit to what other people can take: they see you keep repeating the same mistakes, and feel sorry for yourself again and again. At some point they are fed up and walk away.

Sometimes, these repressed aspects find expression in our most intimate relationships. The daughter of an alcoholic parent, for instance, may find herself confronting her childhood experiences in her relationship with an alcoholic spouse.

On a higher level, the twelfth house can embody spiritual, psychic, and mystical experiences that deepen our connection with the divine.

A benefic planet occupying the 12th place makes the native live happily, he earns name and fame, he spends money for just cause. Ketu in the 12th is the cause of salvation. Sani, Ravi and Mangal being in the 11th make the native extravagant. He seldom enjoys material happiness, may not get family peace, and there is chance of his suffering from various ailments including disease in anus and eye.

Eleventh House

We live in the world of success worshippers. In Kalyuga the predominant tendency of all ambitious people is to succeed and succeed ONLY. The end is important for them, whatever may be the means adopted to achieve success.

The importance of 11th House cannot be over emphasised in Kalyug where the only barometer of success is money! 11th House is the house of gains, of recognition and awards.

The eleventh house is an often-misunderstood house. It is associated with gain, i.e. gain of objectives and articles. At the same time it is associated with punishment, as it is the sixth from the sixth i.e. the manifestation of punishment. These two extremes require explanation.

The seventh house shows ones desires, and the eleventh is the fifth therefrom indicating the future of such desires, namely the fulfillment or denial of the desires. Such a fulfillment is considered as a gain to the native, and the reason the eleventh house is called the labha bhava.

The people / grahas in the eleventh house indicate those whom you attempt to fulfill your desires with and those who will support ones dreams about the future, thus becoming ones friends. Some hopes /desires are inauspicious and could cause harm to others whilst attempting to reap the fruits of ones desires. To account for our misdeeds the eleventh house also acts as the natural house of obstruction or badhaka.

Finally, this is the magical house of hopes and wishes, where higher aspirations and dreams come true. While that might sound over-blown, just you wait and see when you have an important aspect occur in this house -- you may be pleasantly surprised!

11th house Stands for Gains (of money, knowledge), elder brother or sister, wealth, elevation of husband, longevity of mother, gain from father- in-law, friends , hopes , wishes, aspirations, success in undertakings, elections, litigation, speculation, discharge from hospital, ears, trade, society, community, recovery from illness, freedom from misery, ambitions, wishes, desires & their fulfillment, marriage, disease.

The areas governed by the eleventh house are foreign collaborations and higher studies, election, speculation, litigation, writing, health and more. If one is involved in litigation when he is running the conjoined periods of the planets, the native may expect a favorable outcome. He may then come out successfully usually with the help of compromise even if his case is weak. This is because the eleventh house stands for gain and lasting friendship. The eleventh house is commonly referred to as the labhasthana or the house of gains.

The houses 9 to 12 are known as Dharma (9), Artha (10), Kama (11) and Moksha (12) house respectively. Kama here does not indicate mere passion; it also stands for desire. Siddhi is indicated by fulfillment. The eleventh house resolves all questions that are related to hopes, wishes, aspirations and their attainment. The eleventh house governs success in diverse undertakings whether it is related to profession or business dealings.

Eleventh house signifies gain in every way, all kinds of receipts, acquisition of gold and wealth, paternal prosperity, eldest brother or sister, paternal uncle, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, brother-in-law (sister-in-law too), knee, shank, ear, skill in practical arts etc.

Difference between aya (11th) and dhana (2nd) bhavas is, from the 11th house we know whether income is easy or not, how of in what manner—honest or dishonest the native shall earn money.

Dhana bhava indicates amount of income, accumulation of wealth; source of income can be determined from dhana and Aya bhavas. Both the bhavas are complementary to each other. If the dhana bhava or its lord is afflicted due to aspect or conjunction of malefic planets gain of money will not be easy, there must be some sort of difficulties in earning, so also the case with the 11th bhava. Thorough judgment of Aya bhava is to be made according to instructions noted in case of other bhavas.

At the present time material values or to put it more directly, money values, the profit-and-loss nexus rules out nearly every other value. This in itself is the result of planetary evolution; but into cosmic scheme, we do not pretend to enter. The malefics so called have the power of bestowing on the native much greater wealth and importance to a very much greater extent than the so called benefic planets.

The latter might have been more powerful in their own time, the Golden Age; but now the Ages of lead and evil ones are more powerful. Not that benefics utterly fail to redeem their promises in terms of money and influences, but the native gets only the irreducible minimum from them and hardly more. The malefics on the other hand, if they are well-placed, that is, in giving mood, usually give a lot more than the benefics do in money and influence.

Friendships and all your platonic relationships fall in this house, as do memberships in any kind of group or club. Even attendance at a trade show or a theme park -- presence in any congregation of people sharing an interest -- would constitute an eleventh house activity. In that regard, even casual contacts, associations and networking efforts come in here.

According to the researches of both eastern as well as western astrologers, the eleventh house is the house of friends. It is the house which stands for all who are allied to the natives by likeness or sympathy of interest in community and society. It indicates the favorites of the person, flatterers, admirers, associates, adherents, advisors, close acquaintances, well wishers, and supporters. The aspect of casual acquaintances is indicated by the third house. It is important to pay attention to the eleventh bhava to understand the friends one will acquire.

The action in this house can reveal clues about your employer's financial reality. It can show you where you are most likely to make profits. This house governs humanitarian causes and any efforts to correct social ills and injustices.

As per Brihat Parashar Hora Shastra, an auspicious 11th house makes a person happy at all times. 11th house indicates the fructification of efforts of a person. A person is doomed to a lifetime of struggle and very limited gains if the 11th house does not show promise. The pivot around which success revolves in a horoscope is 11th lord and the 11th house. When we assess the horoscope of successful people, we find that all of them have a strong 11th House and 9th house (11th from 11th house).

11th house is known as a badhaka for chara rashi (cardinal signs). The natural sign of badhaka is Aquarius being the natural eleventh sign in the zodiac, and its lord Saturn, tempts us, and punishes us. These badhaka signs and their lords cause obstacles in our life, which are seemingly impossible to rectify for the native. This is especially so if the planets are badly placed. If the planets are well placed and associated with the badhaka sign or lord, then the planets will instead work towards the removal of obstacles, and all the doors of opportunities will be opened to the native, although there will be some obstacles at first, though. As the badhaka acts like Rahu the good results could be reaped through travel, foreigners or foreign destinations.

All planets in 11th are good except when the 11th is a badhakasthana. Lords of 9th, 10th in 11th give continued riches. Lord of 9th, 10th, 11th in 11th give gains from parents, from profession and is also helpful to friends. Bhavas occupied by 11th lord and owned by planets joining the 11th lord confer gains. In the mahadasha in the planet owning 8th and 11th houses, during 1st half of the dasa one discharges debts, he gets personal elevation and the quarrels end. However, during 2nd half of the dasa one will experience effects of 11th house ownership.

All planets give auspicious results when they occupy 11th. Material prosperity during periods of planets related to the 11th is obtained because 11th lord is good for material prosperity and bad for spirituality. Saturn in 11th is good for success and stability. 11th lord in 11th makes the native to progress day by day, and significations of the 11th house will nourish & give wealth. 11th lord is bad only for health aspects and not regarding other matters. Strong Moon in l lth in Aries or Virgo gives two marriages & many sisters. It also causes lung diseases. Mars in 11th in Libra makes one humorous & gives a setback in middle age. With Sun, Moon combination in the 11th one can become a ruler even if born in humble circumstances.

The eleventh house in the horoscope represents your chosen associations. The easiest way to see this is remembering your school days: you were sent to a school without your choice, you were put bin a class and a teacher was appointed to you, also without any choosing on your part, BUT, after a few months you had a few friends, the kids that you played with more, your palls. They were by your choice: from all the kids in your class, you got along better with a few, and they became your friends. This is the essence of the 11th house.

The 11th house deals with your large framework of social contacts. The 3rd house tells the story of the neighborhood in which you live, the 11th house tells where you chose to spend your free time: the extracurricular activities that you have.

The 11th house is where you find your own dreams: some dream of going to the Super Ball once in their life, for others it is visiting the Great Wall of China, and yet someone else dreams of winning the local “green thumb”, these are the dreams that are NOT related to what you do for a living, your status, your family, etc. These are the dreams that are just You, what makes You, the individual, and that brings us to another territory of the 11th house, the presence of your own individuality.

In horoscopes with a strong 11th house, we see many times people that choose to spend time with political activities looking for the betterment of all, or in volunteer work of many kinds. They have many friends and like to experiment with new technology.

In reincarnation terms, this is the house that is mostly concerned with learning how to serve correctly. What is service? Showing people that you care, that things can be better, and giving them what they really need, rather than answering their whimsy wishes.

Planets in the 11th house will bring you situations that will teach you how to take part in the group of your choice, how the power of many individuals will always win over separateness. Beware of the tendency to retreat, scorn and feel superior.

Tenth House

Tenth house is one of the most important houses in the horoscope. The life of the individual mainly depends on tenth house.

It indicates one’s job, business or profession. The individual spends almost more than half of his life to earn money through job or profession to eke out his livelihood and maintain his family.

The Tenth house challenges us to earn respect and recognition in the world at large, making it known as the house of social status and success. Capricorn is strongly influential in its personification of the ever climbing goat. The house represents our motivation and capacity to make vast contributions to the outside world, establishing our social image.

Those ruled by a strong Tenth house are likely to find themselves in a career of authority, disliking bosses and employers pursuing greater power over us. Different planets in the tenth house indicate a different reputation or professional role for the fulfillment of our needs, with the 10th house marking how we project ourselves in the world and what we enjoy within our career.

The Tenth house is linked with social status, ambition, reputation, public image, authority, maturity and the desire for strong success within our professional and business life.

It indicates your appointment, placement, promotion, and advancement. It refers to your sacred rites for your parents. It also refers to your master, and employer.

It shows high standard of life and honors from the Government. It shows your prominence, and seal of authority. It governs your pilgrimage to holy places and command of mantras.

This house is a house of practical vision and clairvoyance, for here we can see clearly what is. Reputation and career are often connected to this house, since the areas where we can see with greatest clarity are those we most often can put to use to make a living. In summary, this house is where we have real vision and can see to do and work. Planets transiting this house may provide moments of insight and clear-seeing as well.

This house governs horse races and your athletic activities. It shows your valor, prowess, learning, and fame. It governs judges, presidents, and aristocracy. It also governs your retirement from worldly activities.

It governs Rain. It refers to the Head of State, and National Leaders. It governs National trade and Economics. The 10th house also reveals about stolen goods taken away by the thieves.

Nineth House

The Ninth house is ruled by the zodiac sign of Sagittarius and by the planet Jupiter. It is the third of the four cadent houses.

This astrology house deals with various things associated with the "higher mind" , together with travel .

The Ninth House is a Fire House. It is the last and most mature of the Fire Houses. Here the inspirational energy of the First House still exists but in a refined manner. Conclusions are now being drawn about what all this inspiration and meaning points too.

In our analogy our child, now an adult, has been through ups and downs in his life but now he asks what does it all mean. Is there a common strand that ties it all together or is there something that he has found that gives him meaning and purpose and inspires him with his life.

The Ninth house allows for us to broaden our philosophical horizons and to realise and come to terms with our highest potentials. The influence of Sagittarius sees a strong interest in travel, other cultures and learning. The Ninth house is where we search for truth through experiences that form our philosophy of life and extend our spiritual thoughts to a place they have never been before.

The Ninth house governs education, religion, spiritual visions and the higher courts. Planets in the Ninth house indicate an unwillingness to accept the conventional barriers and restrictions we are faced with. It is through the Ninth house that we are able to grasp and understand larger concepts, and use these concepts to overcome bigger issues within our life.

The Ninth House is the place where we search for a global meaning to our lives. It where we expand our personal limited ideas into a global vision. It is the place where we find our own God. For some people this may be finding oneness and beauty and challenge and adventure by climbing a beautiful mountain.

For others it may be to visit foreign cultures and to see their way of living. For others it may be a formal religion which explains all aspects of creation. Whatever, this is a place where we expand our limited vision into a global one.

The opposite house the Third was about accumulating knowledge in our local environment, however here in the Ninth House this knowledge comes together into a grander vision of the World. There is something intensely positive and idealistic about this house because it is the area of Meaning and Purpose. It is life affirming and points to some higher order at work, even if this higher order is just to see a beautiful sunset and wonder about the harmony that lies behind it all.

Understanding and accepting that our actions can have far reaching implications for the whole of humanity is an element of this house. Higher education allows us to enhance the world as a whole

This is the house that encourages us to think big and bold, and to consider the future in the broadest terms. There always seems to be a certain amount of preparation required before one can take full advantage of all that the ninth house has to offer.

Traditionally the ninth house is known as the house of long distance travel. Travel of distances greater than 500 miles would be found in this house.

International communication, interactions and relationships with foreigners, distant relatives and in-laws, and higher education are the key areas covered by this important house.

Voyages, foreigners, foreign countries, journeys into the unknown both physical and mental, church, religion, theology, philosophy, beliefs, divination, languages, higher learning, college education, literature, books, publishing, media, law, lawyers, truth, justice, prophecy, expansion and broadening of one's horizons in all ways are covered by the 9th house.

This house also deals with the knowledge gained through long-distance travel, whereby a larger portion of human culture can be experienced by an individual. Therefore this house governs travel of the body as well as the mind, together with foreigners and foreign affairs in general.

It also rules your attitudes and viewpoints on all topics, and your efforts to understand complex issues, including morals and ethics.

The Ninth House represents our desire for union with something greater. It is a house of belief systems, religion and philosophy and challenges us to expand our horizons. This is a house that encourages us to probe deeper in our search for answers to life's mysteries, to extend our minds rather than accepting things at face value. Here we are encouraged to explore beyond our accepted understanding, as we try to discover the meaning of life.

This house drives discussions on publishing, legal and academic matters. It emphasizes the higher mind and mental exploration. It deals with all codified collectivistic thought structures, usually embodied in philosophy, religion and religious institutions, legal systems and laws. And institutions of higher learning - schools, colleges, universities.

This house relates also to the teaching and publishing professions, though which spiritual and philosophic precepts are passed onto succeeding generations.

This house will describe what kind of education we have had, and our attitude in general towards learning and gathering knowledge. It also sheds light on personal beliefs and opinions relating to religious, spiritual or philosophical matters.

This house deals with the collective mind, as opposed to the individual mind, so is therefore associated with universal consciousness and social conscience.

They are very important, in the same sense that the timing on launching a business, starting a project, buying or selling something is important. It is very important to find the best time to do certain things, and the astrology of the launching of things is an art in itself.

That said, it is impossible to counteract "real world" conditions. For instance, you can plant potatoes on the best day of the month astrologically, but will probably not get many potatoes if you've planted in November rather than April.

By the same token, you may get a great deal on a house, but if the house has plumbing problems, you'll still have to deal with them. And yes, plumbing (or electrical, or foundation) problems can be seen in the chart of when you first look at a house, as well as when you close escrow.

Most people think that a compatibility chart tells all there is to know about whether two people are suited to each other. While extremely important and revealing of points of harmony and conflict, other important charts include the time when two people first meet, as well as the composite chart.

The composite chart is derived from the midpoints of the similar planets between two charts, i.e., if one is an Aquarius and the other is a Gemini, as a rule the composite Sun will be in Aries. And if one Moon is in Sagittarius and the other Moon is in Aquarius, the composite Moon is likely in Capricorn, the sign in between Sag and Aquarius.

Then there's the marriage chart. This is actually an Inceptional chart, in that a marriage is the inception of the contract of partnership. Thus it shows the past, present, and future of the individuals, as well as the composite unit.

In any marriage chart it is good to make sure that the rulers of the two people getting married are harmoniously aspected with each other, and if possible, the rulers of each's marriage house (7th house). FYI, "love affairs" are ruled by the 5th house, not the 7th. That's why even if one has a boyfriend or girlfriend for years but has never married, then it cannot be counted as a 7th house activity.

The first marriage is ruled by the 7th house, as are all partnership circumstances throughout the life. The second marriage is ruled by the 9th house, the third marriage by the 11th house, and so on. This is the source of much confusion among amateur astrologers and novices at the craft, and the reason I ask people who come to me for a wedding date whether they've been married before or not.

If I'm planning someone's second wedding, then their significator is the ruler of their 9th house and any planets in that house, and the 7th becomes more of a secondary and even generic influence.

And on a final note, the week of July 11, 2005 was a great week for getting married, since there were many favorable aspects made between the rulers of many signs. I know of several weddings for that week, and somehow it also seems that Jupiter in Libra has brought more marriages to the fore than I remember in other years.

Maybe Libra, the sign of marriage and partnership, is somehow expanded by Jupiter into a hopefulness and an adventure in partnership. Maybe marriages under the influence of Jupiter in Libra are somehow the archetype of what the higher truth of relationship is really all about. So if you were wondering, it was a great week to elope and a great time to get married. There are also other great days coming, but that's another article for another time.

People with a lot of planets in the Ninth House will focus their life on a search for meaning and adventure. They may well be attracted to religions or even cults. They may also excel in danger sports and challenges of all kinds. They may spend much of their life travelling, living abroad or seeing foreign cultures. They will be good teachers and inspirational leaders.

With Neptune in the Ninth House a person will look for spiritual enlightenment by seeing the different cultures of the world of through a formal religion. With Mercury in the the Ninth House a person could be a great travel writer or inspirational storyteller. With the Moon in the Ninth House a person will be nurtured and nourished by having a higher meaning in their life.

The Ninth House shows our future generations such as grandchildren, as well as distant relatives and in-laws.

The bhavas that are most essential to the determination of the quality and character of the horoscope are (1) Lagna, (2) Bhagya and (3) Karma bhavas. The three go together, they are integrated. For, it is easy enough to perceive that as there has to be a wall before there is a good painting on it, so, there has to be a strong lagna to have a good Bhagya and good Karma.

And since Bhagya and Karma are really the same thing in the circular order karma determining the bhagya (destiny) and bhagya determining the karma—they would always go together with the lagna. In fact the trio are inseparable. Every lagna has its bhagya and every bhagya has its karma. The karma determines the bhagya and both effect the individual that is lagna.

Graha Yamal an authoritative ancient text sets forth the sovereign importance of karma bhava and bhagya bhava in these words "The Karmasthana is very important and has to be studied very carefully. If there is no graha (planet) here or this house is not aspected by any graha the native roams about in abject poverty. Also when the bhagyasthana and the karmasthana are without any planet or unaspected, the result is deplorable". So, the dharna bhava (bhagya, dharma and 9th house are synonymous) and the karma bhava have to be rightly evaluated in a horoscope.

Another name for bhagya bhava is Purba Janma (previous birth). A favorable 'daiva' helps the individual to take all hurdles without much difficulty. An unfavorable 'daiva' raises obstacles at every step. It is only when the individual is exceptionally favored with a strong karmasthana, that he can take all the obstacles in his stride and make satisfactory progress in life. The dhana bhava and karma bhava both are also included in bhagya bhava.

The native's wealth, name and fame and distinction may be at their best if there is favorable bhagya yoga in the horoscope. As told before there is a link between previous birth and the worldly happiness and exuberant career of the present birth. In judging the beneficial condition of the bhagya lord we must note the condition of bhagya-karta, which is the secondary ruler of destiny. The lord of the rasi where: bhagyapathi is situated is the ruler or controller of the native's destiny.

If the bhagya-karta planet is happily disposed, aspected by or conjoined with benefic planet or planets the native shall also be lucky. Of course, we must not overlook the quality of the 9th lord; both bhagyapathi and bhagya-karta being favorable will do immense good to the native.

Eighth House

The Eighth house is ruled by the sign Scorpio. The Eighth House is about the support you receive from other people.

This is a Water House and this is reflected in it being the area of deep emotional purification. It is a Fixed Water House and their is nothing transient or superficial about the desires that are expressed here. This House naturally is ruled by and corresponds to the sign of Scorpio. These people are known for their intensity and battling nature but there is also a depth and a raw honesty about this sign.

This is one of the most complex houses of the horoscope. It contains some of the most complicated, important, and challenging issues that we face in life.

All issues such as death, sexuality, secrets, other people’s resources, sacrifice and the unseen world of spirits, astral entities, ghosts or our direct experience with such things govern this house. Anything that is taboo, intense, uncomfortable and deep lingers here.

This house also rules wealth of your spouse or partner, spirituality, insurance, legacies, other people's money, stocks, bonds, taxes, inheritances, wills, surgeries and astral experiences. It is the house of regeneration, and covers death, sex, legal matters, and metaphysics.

Other keywords include: transformation, resources of others, sexuality, transmutation, battles, the Path of Discipleship.

This house rules the bladder, genitals, sex organs, hemorrhoids, muscular system, reproductive system, hernias, rectum, prostate and anus.

The child in our analogy now has to grow up and experience the intensity and depth of the basic life processes, birth, sex and death.

This house often can be a very secretive place since the sensitivity and pain that surround it are so strong. For this reason it's not always easy to see the areas that it controls since they are often hidden deep inside a person. It could be the place where a person locks himself away or has deep emotional crisis. Often what is going on is therefore not apparent to the casual observer.

It is also the area of great personal challenges. No wonder it, and its sign ruler Scorpio, have a notorious reputation.

This is the field of experience in which you are challenged to boldly wrest all the powers of your psyche from the deep, dark underworld; focus all that power with ruthless intensity on the process of breaking down your reality structure into little pieces, then reassemble all the pieces into a new whole. Here is the place where all the taboos of society are addressed; where you dig into your own "internal garbage" to find the treasure hidden there. Think of a compost heap where all the bits of decaying food break down and eventually turn into fertilizer to nourish new growth.

The 8th house is the house of longevity. It covers the span of life. This house is about rebirth, regeneration and the transformation of energy.

According to Hindu theory the beginning of life here below is the beginning of the barrier between the individual soul and God. In other words life begins when the individual soul starts, off the Universal soul to masquerade for its allotted span as an individual—the non-spiritual elements, though themselves also ultimately and basically spiritual—acting as the camouflage to obviously spiritual past.

The Eighth House is where a person is purified and cleansed through an intense meeting with another. It is the area of sexuality and of death. This can be a metaphorical death of the personal self and often this occurs by the deep merging of two people where the self is lost. There is nothing shallow about this house. Everything is felt with an intensity and depth and this is both the good and bad sides of human nature.

There can often be a deep crisis that causes a person to be purged of their negativity. This crisis could show itself in the form of jealousy or rage or hate or possessiveness. Whatever can be said about this House the areas it highlights are never superficial. The life processes are felt intensely here, things such as the birth of a child , or the death of a friend, or the passion involved in wanting to be close to another. This is the area where a person will give everything in order to possess their desires.

We find our mates in the 8th House, but it is through our sexual contact with another person that our "urge to merge" is either fulfilled or dissolved. The sexual nature, for the vast majority
of humans, is either a sure path to personal growth, or it brings about very deep complications that are quite destructive. While it is true, that once we become sexual the beauty, purity, and innocence of childhood is lost, at the same time .. opportunities to grow and evolve are set in motion. It is equally true that once a relationship becomes sexual, the dynamics between the two people are changed forever. There is no going back: The relationship is now on a direct course either for evolution or annihilation. When we mate and marry we join our physical, emotional, and spiritual resources with those of the other person.

As the 8th House is second from the 7th, it involves the resources of our partners, from the standpoints of marriage and of business. In a more general sense, the 8th speaks about money that comes to us from our general dealings with others, and about the rewards that come to us from our creative self-expression.

Sorrow, affliction, vicissitudes of forces are the inevitable incidents to a life on earth and it is from the 8th house that all these have to be calculated. In pessimistic language, the house represents also the house of action. For, action is the source of all vicissitudes of fortunes.

It is also the house of divorce settlements, wills, and legacies as well as the house of royalties, stock dividends, and money which is won or lost coming from any investments we may have made.

Being the opposite House to the Second House which is very much about my Possessions and Values the Eighth House is to do with other peoples Values and Possesions. This is why this house is very much about purification of the individual through meeting the other and their values at an intense level. This may be by desiring their possesions or what they have or desiring them and who they are or by setting your values against theirs. It is also the area of taxes. This is money that is effectively someone elses of which you have only temporary possesion.

Joint financial matters also come under the eighth house. (To the ancients, money is a form of concentrated energy.) The financial dealings in this house do not include earned income (that would be covered by the second house), but do cover money you lend and also owe others. Prizes, gifts, inheritances, tax payments and refunds, bonuses, commissions, royalties, child support, alimony, mortgages, credit, loans and venture capitol are the kinds of transactions ruled by the eighth house.

Any time you need money to fund a big idea, your chances for success would all come under this house. This house also would indicate the state of your partner's prosperity.

Gifts and transactions of all kinds are included in this house, and physical love‹sex and reproduction‹is also included here. (Note that in astrology, the fifth house is love, the seventh house is marriage and the eighth house is sex, all different houses.) Spiritual and highly intuitive or even psychic experiences are often found in this house too (along with the twelfth house). Finally, this house rules endings and things to be discarded. As such, surgery is covered here.

Death

An examination of this house tells much about the nature of an individuals death, the 8th also has a lot to do with our psychological and spiritual death.

The seventh house is described as the house of destruction. The 7th from the 8th house is the 2nd from lagna and the lord of the 2nd is therefore, indicated as the killer. According to this theory the 6th house attitude (i.e. the 6th bhava) is the house of sorrow and affliction. The house which destroys the 6th house attitude ( bhava ) is the 12th (the house of destruction of the 6th i.e. the house of sorrow and affliction ) which has been described as the house of salvation or release. The individual soul merges into the Universal soul, its sojourn on earth is completed. Superficially therefore, the 6th house and the 8th give nearly the same result.

Having planets in this house sometimes causes individuals to obsess over death or have a strong interest in this process. Death is symbolic of change. In the tarot deck, the Death card represents transformation, regeneration and change. All these facts are found within the eighth house.

Along with death comes regeneration and rebirth of our personality. During life we experience certain things that force us to grow and change our outlook. Just like the symbolic Phoenix known in ancient times who represents the death and destruction of self, she is then born again from the ashes. Eighth house individuals remind the Phoenix, they are survivors. They are destined to go through emotional, physical and material death at sometime in their lives.

There is an ancient spiritual saying that reminds us: "Death is but a change of form; life is immortal." Scorpio and the 8th house speak about the death and destruction of form on the one hand; on the other, they speak about the regeneration of form .. the new possibilities that life offers us, so we may enrich ourselves on many levels. The price that we usually have to pay for this renewal is death, release, and detachment.

Many times individuals with planets here, especially the Sun or Moon experience the death of someone close to them at a young age. They begin to have a deep awareness and concern within themselves that people die, things change, and they themselves will one day die. They always have a sense of their own mortality. This urge or awareness is always in their consciousness pushing them forward in life. They try to live each day to the fullest. The true lesson for them is to realize that death is just an illusion, a transition or a transformation. The truth is that nothing ever truly dies. Energy is merely transformed into another level of existence. Just as physics states, “Energy cannot be created or destroyed but is merely transformed into another substance.”

A Person with many planets in the Eighth House may well be a very private person. There will be a lot more to them under the surface than first appears. There will an intensity and depth about them and a sexual magnetism. Much of their life focus will be in battling their internal demons often through deep relationsihips. Ultimately hopefully they will purify themselves in the process.

With Mars in the Eighth House a person will be highly sexual, intense and magnetic. They may see crisis and trouble around them and people plotting against them. With Venus in the Eighth a person will desire to deeply lose themselves in another. They may have a talent for dealing with other peoples money such as being an Investment Banker. With Neptune in the Eighth House a person will achieve a mystical experience by merging with another in sexual union.

Seventh House

This area of the chart begins with an important point called the Descendant, which is the sign on the cusp of the 7th house. It is the sign that, like the sunset, was setting in the west at the time of birth. It is found at 3 o'clock on the zodiac wheel.

The First House is about Identity, and across the wheel, whereas the 5th house governs romance and love affairs, the seventh house is about the deep commitment of love. It also shows what you need in a relationship and partner. It is an angular house. Its natural sign ruler is Libra and its natural planetary ruler is Venus.

The seventh house denotes marriage, wife or husband, trade or business, buying and selling, partnership, short journey, sexual act, bladder, lost property etc.

The 7th house is where you meet your mate. The Descendant is always opposite your Ascendant and while the Ascendant indicates your personality projection, the Descendant represents the part of your psyche that you most comfortably project onto your partner.

Consequently, the Descendant indicates qualities in a partner you’ll be most attracted to for any committed love and sexual relationship. You can easily find out what sign is on your 7th house cusp once you know your Ascendant since it will always be the sign opposite your Ascendant. Read on to discover what the sign on your 7th house cusp will tell you about your ultimate relationship potential.

Do you find it easy to pair up, or are you more of a singleton? Is your love life a tragic one, or are you lucky in love? Will you marry many times, or just once? Will it be a happy marriage, or a tumultuous one, or both? Like the Love Line on your palm, this house has clues to what lessons you'll encounter.

The seventh house is where you'll find insight on relationships. It's traditionally called the house of marriage. But it defines how you pair up, whether it's in love, friendship or business partnerships.

Serious committed relationships are found in the seventh house. Your spouse, Companionship, the alter ego, partnerships, marriage, the first marriage, the "significant other", competitors, our "shadow self", lawyers, mediators, counselors, contracts, contractual partnerships, one-on-one relationships, business partnerships including verbal commitments, rivals, justice, law, opponents (adversaries) are included in this house.

The house is associated with intimate relationships, dealings with the public, cooperation, equality, awareness of our own identity, agreements and a desire to share close one-on-one interactions.

With this house, we see a shift away from the self toward another -- a partner. By cooperating with and relating to another we unite for the purpose of achieving something. Purpose is important to the Seventh House -- the act of accomplishing something great or small for the self, the partnership and even society as a whole. In uniting with another, we also become a more valuable member of our world: we make a contribution, one small cog in the wheel of life. We have purpose. Cooperation and partnership help to expedite our purpose in life.

Through a partnership, we fill out our essential being. Suddenly, we see ourselves in context. Through a partnership in which we work, play, love and/or create, we are fully formed and completed. The other half helps to make us whole. Ultimately, how we relate to others will help to define the success we have as a human being and as a member of humankind.

The Seventh House shows us that partnerships can take many forms: marriage, business relationships, contracts, legalities, negotiations and agreements. We will cooperate to a greater or lesser extent in these varied partnerships. The quality of that cooperation, in essence how we relate to the other, is key to the Seventh House. Why do we choose this partnership? Is it for love or money? Practical reasons? Social considerations? There are many reasons for uniting with another. We may choose to fill voids we see in ourselves. We may simply want the company and companionship of another. The partnerships we form say a great deal about ourselves and also serve to teach us much. This house wants us to know that the quality of our partnerships will enhance our lives, make them fuller, more special and better for everyone.

The seventh house holds clues to all important one-on-one ties, and that includes enemies and arch rivals. The many hues of relating, from harmony to life-or-death power struggles are expressed in the seventh house.

It has a particularly strong emphasis on our social side, focusing on putting the energies we put into the first house back into ourselves. The seventh house aims to bring about greater self awareness of our personal identity, seeing us seek projected parts of ourselves in our most intimate relationships.

It is through this that we are challenged to develop deep, committed relationships with others – with Libra most strongly influencing this. Planets located in this house determine our dealings with other people, influencing how we relate to others, what we value in relationships and what we expect from others.

If the 7th bhava and its lord is associated with or aspected by a benefic planet the wife or the husband as the case may be will be beautiful to look at, their physical structure may be charming and the native's relation with his (or her) father-in-law may be cordial and domestic environment may be peaceful. All the rules of judging a horoscope are applicable also in case of this bhava.

In case of a male Sukra, and in case of a female native both Sukra and Mangal signify the 7th bhava i.e. husband or wife. Therefore in judging the 7th bhava disposition of Sukra (in case of a male) or Sukra and Mangal (in case of a female) and the 7th house from these planets and their lords are to be taken into consideration.

If they are well-disposed, acquires favorable Vargas or conjoined with or aspected by benefic planets the native's conjugal life will be happy. The husband's and wife's natal houses are thus interrelated and have to be judged in conjunction with each other. The status, family, health, wealth, education etc. of the husband and the wife are mirrored in the first and the seventh. If any of them is governed or aspected by an evil planet the disparities and afflictions should follow. Favorably governed and favorably aspected the results would be happy.

Tensions within a partnership also serve to teach us lessons. For this reason, the Seventh House also focuses on the darker side of our unions. Divorce, lawsuits and treaties all fall within this house. At its worst, a partnership may create enemies -- and on a more global scale, these rifts can deteriorate into war. It is our reaction to this adversity which will shape the partnerships yet to come.

The seventh house shows whether you're apt to partner up in business, or go it alone. An energized seventh house (Sun or Mars) makes it likely that working as a duo gets you farther faster. Jupiter in the house of partnerships is auspicious for tandem ventures, and ups the chances for financial rewards.

Difficult aspects to, or karmic lessons (Pluto, Saturn) in the seventh turns relationships into a crucible....where what's gained is deeply transformative in the end. If love hurts, see if you don't deserve extra points for high degree of difficulty. Those with major seventh house lessons emerge knowing that love's shadows are also expressions of the soul, and part of true intimacy.

Sixth House

The Sixth house rules enemy, accidents, disease, mental afflictions, mother's brother, stepmother, co-wife, litigation and misfortunes.

The sixth house is one of the Trik houses. Sixth, eighth and twelfth houses are known as trik houses not considered auspicious in Vedic Astrology. They also influence the auspiciousness of the planets, and house lords which form a relationship with these houses.

It is the house of diseases, loans and services. The enemies of the person are also analyzed through this house. This house is also included in the Upchaya houses.

It is one of the Arth houses(second, sixth and tenth house). The aspect of Jupiter on this house does not create any scarcity of money for a person.

General

The Sixth House describes the general health of the native, and the type of sickness to which he is prone. It also indicates enemies, diet, nutrition, hygiene, health care, sickness, opposition, disputes, legal cases, loss, accident, stamina to fight back, success in competition, difficulties, struggle, maternal uncle, service, contract, domestic pets and body part: waist, loans, divorce, split in marriage, marital disharmony, conflicts (wars in olden days), service (only rendering service under an employer and not business or profession.

Daily Activities

It also determines the conditions with which the daily work is carried out, of life: what will I wear today? Do I need a haircut? These simple matters keep our engines humming and enable us to do the more important work of our choosing, even though this normally is shown by the Tenth House.

Its chief concern, however, is to elucidate the conditions surrounding the work or duty involved and the reaction where co-workers, employers or employees are concerned. The Zodiacal Sign actually on the cusp of the Sixth House will show the degree of physical strength or weakness and the ailments to which the individual will be susceptible.

How you take responsibility for your own health & fitness: diet, exercise, health care, stress management, sleep habits, medical check-ups; how you care for the health & fitness of others: health-care work, therapy, nutrition counseling, fitness training, nursing, pharmacy. The sixth house in the natural Zodiac is ruled by the sign Virgo and the Planet mercury.

Even today, your work is sure to affect your health and well-being, so keep this in mind when examining your horoscope. Below, though, I focus on the work itself. Health issues related to different professions are easy enough to foresee.

Service

The 6th House governs your work, what you do for a living. It doesn't exactly deal with the social situation at work or your career, because these things belong to the 10th House. The 6th is about what you work with, what it is you do, and how that works out for you.

The sixth house indicates the quality of SERVICE you give to others as well as the quality of service they give to you, so this house rules, by extension, servants of all sorts.

The sixth house is our office -- it's where we go to take care of business on a daily basis, and in the sixth house, we find all the routines and activities that we have to do on a daily basis in order to maintain an existence on the physical plane. The sixth house is a cadent house, and here we are concerned with learning about the material world.

The sixth house, is associated with health and one's capacity for work and service. General working conditions, one's ability to obtain and hold a job, job efficiency, daily responsibilities (paid and unpaid), and those who work for or with you occupational hazards, and one's relationships with co-workers and employees are described by this house. Nowadays we can consider any job drawing salary from the employer under this category) and competitive examinations.

The state of the sixth house indicates your daily routine and the methods you use to get your work done. The cusp of this house describes the nature of your work and the general environment of your workplace. This house also rules people you employ, whether at home or at work.

The ability to serve others in health and through work is both valuable and fulfilling. how you serve others in a useful way: helping, working, waiting-on, attending, serving, using skills, teaching skills, craftsmanship, taking care of details, organizing; how you do your duties: everyday work routines, chores, job functions, responsibilities, using proper methods, being punctual, being organized, keeping schedules, working well, being efficient/competent/skillful, how you work or perform to make a living; how you "fix" things or make them more "perfect";

The person in a profession which requires manual or physical labor, such as a servant and a peon are analyzed through this house. The position of auspicious planets in this house makes the person affectionate and good at serving others.

So far as conditions of work are concerned, considered apart from the actual nature of the vocation that is followed, one has to make allowance for one of three factors, i.e., whether the individual under consideration is employed, is an employer, or carries out vocational activities on his or her own initiative. The Cardinal Signs on the cusp of the Sixth House give the strongest indication of the exercising of control over others. The Fixed Signs show the greater capacity for the actual carrying out of work or duties. Mutable signs demonstrate such in-between positions as Foreman or Shop-Steward. The Fire Signs will undoubtedly increase the natural enthusiasm for the work being done.

In a Mundane Figure it enhances the public health and the laboring class including all involuntary services rendered by the people.

In a National Figure it favors any political party supporting Labor. In a Court of Law the deliberations of the jury and the Court records and reports are influenced by the Sixth House. In an organization the Sixth House affects the attitudes, efficiency and general conditions of the employees.

It is the house of duty, dedication, and maintenance. It is the door of knowledge gained through repetitive, mundane examination of data, and wisdom and compassion gained through service to others, whether rendered gladly or forced by karma. With a lot of planets in the sixth, work, health and dependability are issues.

Health

The 6th house in a horoscope is referred to as the house of health. Maintaining good health is the ability to cope in the face of adversity, and this is seen from the 6th house. As human beings, we naturally have shortcomings. What will we do with them? How will we react in the face of personal crisis? Crises, illness and reversals of fortune are all part of our earthly trek. How we confront these situations and deal with the lessons they invariably teach us helps to define the person we become.

In traditional astrology this was (and still is, to many astrologers) the House of health, revealing illnesses and other ailments. The reason for this is simple: few things influence your health more than what you work with, day in and day out. This was particularly true up until the 19th century, since medicine was quite undeveloped until then. So was ergonomy, et cetera.

The other thing to look for here are conditions of health, the type of ailments to which you are prone.

Having planets in the sixth house doesn't indicate that we're going to have health problems, but may describe the types of things that we will have to do in order to prevent health problems. Virgo is the natural sign of the sixth house; Mercury is its natural ruler.

Planets in the sixth house reflect particular facets of these matters; for example, Moon in the sixth house indicates vulnerability to a continuing variety of medical complaints, especially stomach or digestive disorders. The ailments of these individuals are usually not major threats but can disrupt their work and routine schedules. They are apt to operate a business from their home, or seek jobs related to homes, food, family life, women, or children.

They develop mothering instincts and other strong emotional identification toward those who work for or with them. They may work better with women than with men. Work habits may be inconsistent as is their ability to stay in jobs. Their general health and psychological outlook are strongly affected by their work, and when the work environment or responsibilities are upsetting for some reason, inefficiency and absences are the result.

If Saturn is strong in this house, the person prefers to do a job rather than running a business. Saturn is the planet of job or service. When it is stable in the birth-chart, the person likes to do his work himself.

When Mars is malefic in the birth-chart and forms a relationship with its own sign in the Ascendant, the person may honestly serve in the police department or may make money through immoral acts in the department.

Relationship of Mars and Moon in this house may make the person a surgeon.

In fact, with regard to diseases, medical astrology has already developed as a separate field and tons of literature is available in the market on medical astrology. It is not possible to discuss entire medical astrology subject here, but some tips are given on diseases.

This house rules the conscious mind and the proactive measures we take to keep our bodies healthy. (Remember, the first house of the horoscope rules health in terms of overall energy level and vitality, so both have to be considered.) Diet, fitness, and exercise are covered in this sixth house, as are checkups and visits to the dentist.

Struggles

The sixth house of horoscope represents the struggle-experience. The six house shows struggle, difficulties, opposition of various kinds, litigation and servitude. This house represents fear, difficulties, enemies, ill health, debt and fear of death. Essentially it is the house of difficulties.

Our fears may hold us back, but we can meet them head on and come out stronger on the other side, we may learn the valuable lesson of service or what our life’s work should be. Work and service are central to the sixth house. The focus here is on employment (employers and employee), training, those who serve us (along with those we serve) and those who depend on us. Keeping ourselves strong throughout these efforts is also important here, which is why this house further focuses on health (good and bad), diet, fitness and hygiene.

Essential to the work, we do in life is the work; we do on our self duty, responsibility and personal growth all contribute to the creation of a fully-realized being. We work for others as well as for ourselves; we are at service to those who need us, including our own being. There will be times when crises of health or faith will stand in the way of our best self. At those times, we must endeavor to heal ourselves so that we can return to the work of realizing our sum potential, of serving our world.

Enemies

The Sixth House represents enemies and wounds. This is an important house as enemies can destroy our mental peace. Even though philosophically the Adversary is an active collaborator and is the builder of the strength in man, practically he can make us cry with his machinations. Hence a powerful Sixth lord is called for; if the sixth house is weak or aspected by malefics, we are bound to suffer.

Loans

This house is the house of loan. Sometimes the person takes loans to fulfill his work responsibilities or to expand his business. This house helps analyze when will the person get his loan or will he be easily able to sanction his loan or not. If an auspicious planet is located in this house, the person may not face any obstacles in getting his loan.

If the lord of this house is affected by the malefic influence, the person may get health problems.

Pets

The sixth house rules pets and domestic animals; (as well as insects, vermin, and pests in general, including your tiresome neighbor). It is connected with animal husbandry.

Small animals, pets and domesticated beasts in general are ruled, though riding beasts such as horses, oxen and elephants are governed by the 12th. The healing professions and the military are two more subjects governed by this house.

Signs in the Sixth House

When the violent signs(1, 2, 8, 11 signs) are located in the sixth house or more than one planet are placed together in the nearest degrees, the person may get terminated from his job.

When Ketu and Saturn are located together in the nearest degrees in the sixth house then the person may face problem in retaining the job. According to some astrologers, Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu create problems for the person at work. Moon in this house may make the person harsh in nature but he may not get easily influenced by anyone and has control on himself. The strength of Moon is also important to analyze while assessing the auspiciousness of Moon.

If the sixth house falls in an auspicious sign (rasi) and the bhava is associated with or aspected by benefic planet unfavorable results signified by the Sixth bhava should not be expected. Contrary results may happen when the Sixth house falls in an inauspicious sign conjoined with or aspected by an unfavorable planet.

Inauspicious Planet in the Sixth House

If inauspicious planets are located in the sixth house, the person may face obstacles at the professional front. If Moon or Venus is present in this house, the person may work in the areas related to hospitals or hotels.

This house is the house of hospitals. The malefic Sun or Rahu may make the person a surgeon. Position of Moon in the debilitated sign increases the auspiciousness of the yoga created for the profession related to medical fields in the person’s birth chart. Relationship of Moon with sixth house may give the person opportunity to serve in police or army. When this house forms a relationship with Saturn, the person gets success in the field of Judiciary.

If the 6th lord associates with or is aspected by a malefic and is situated in lagna the person will suffer from boils, if the 6th lord aspected by or conjoined with malefics is situated in the 5th house his son will suffer from boils, if such an afflicted 6th lord is posited in 4th the mother will suffer from boils etc. If the three weak malefic planets are posited in the 6th or 8th place or these two bhavas are aspected by three weak malefics the native remains sickly since his birth and all along suffers due to monetary loss. He is mentally troubled owing to activities of enemies.

On the other hand if powerful Budha, Vrihaspathi, Sukra and favorable Chandra are situated in the 6th place the native's granary will be full of grain and cereals and the treasury also will never be empty. If Ravi associated with a friendly planet and benefic planet is placed in the 6th the native's enemies will be vanquished. If Ravi associated with a malefic and unfriendly planet is situated in the 6th house the person is always troubled by enemies. Weak and malefic Chandra in the 6th is the cause of suffering due to attack of various diseases. The debilitated Mangal in the 6th house causes danger to life and the native sustains monetary loss.

A retrograde Vrihaspathi being in the 6th place when posited in an enemy house gives the native awful troubles due to activities of an enemy or enemies. If the 6th lord being in the 6th is associated with Sani and Rahu the native also suffers much due to activities of enemies.

There is danger from fire or chance of loss of money due to activities of thieves if the 6th lord is combined with Sani and Mangal. If afflicted Ravi is placed in the 6th house the person suffers from headache, any disease due to poison, heart trouble, gastritis or any other disease due to defective secretion of biles.

The best Yoga for the destruction of enemies is Jupiter in the Ascendant & the North Node in the sixth. This is also known as Ashta Lakshmi Yoga. This Yoga will wipe out enemies.

To determine the strength and the results of the 6th house we have to determine the ascendant and the lord of the 6th house.

Fifth House

The fifth house denotes intellect, talent, devotion to God, royal favor, secret counsel, education and learning, wisdom and children. The fifth place is primarily termed as place concerning children ( Putrasthana). The Karaka planet is Vrihaspathi. But while giving judgment about children the fifth place from Chandra, Vrhaspathi and the 9th house are to be examined carefully.

Children are indicated by the 5th bhava in the horoscope. A son is called as putra in Sanskrit. Those who die without bearing a son are destined to go to PUTA namak Hell . All the ancestors of that tree fall in the hell named Puta. Since a son protects[rakshati] his ancestors from the Puta hell ,that means he does ["ra"ksha ] from ["put"a] hence he is known as “putra”

Children as a source of pleasure are also important in the Fifth House. This brings us back to creativity, since through our children we create an extension of ourselves and then watch it grow. Giving our children all the good we had (and have), and then some, is certainly a pleasurable pursuit. How will this manifest itself? What form of pleasure and emotional release is best for our children? Music, dance, theater, art, science, literature -- these fancies are for them and for us. Play for the purpose of emotional enrichment and pure pleasure is what the Fifth House is all about.

One may get children from those planets as well as the 5th and 9th lords during their dasa and antardasas. If the 5th or 7th place from lagna or Chandra is occupied or aspected by or conjoined with benefic planets good results may be predicted about son and wife both, on the other hand if those places or their lords become malefic due to aspect of or conjunction with unfavorable planets we can not expect any good result about children and wife.

Fifth house is the Puthra sthana (house indicating children) for a male and any malefic planets in this fifth house creates Puthra Dosha (imperfection in child birth) to the native. For a female both the fifth and ninth house in the horoscope are to be analyzed for the child birth. Usually ninth house is called as Puthra Sthana for women but still, fifth house indicates the nature of womb (ovary) and conception. Any malefic in 5th or ninth house in the horoscope of female creates some problem in child birth.

If suspicion be of twins, and you find, upon that question, the ascending sign be double-bodied, and a fortune therein, or the same of the 5th house, and ☉ and ☽ be in double-bodied signs, and the lords of the ascendant and 5th be the same, you may judge twins. But unless all, or nearly all, these testimonies concur, it is not safe so to judge.

TRADITIONAL :

If suspicion be of twins, and you find, upon that question, the ascending sign be double-bodied, and a fortune therein, or the same of the 5th house, and ☉ and be in double-bodied signs, and the lords of the ascendant and 5th be the same, you may judge twins. But unless all, or nearly all, these testimonies concur, it is not safe so to judge.

K.P.SYSTEM :

According to this system the sub-lord of 5th cusp in any manner signified to 2,5, and 11 th house, then there is child birth, unless not in barren signs. Similarly 5th cusp sub-lord in any manner signifying 2,5 and 11 placed in double bodied signs ( not in barren signs ) then the native is promised, twin births, but the female chart too must contain or support such a combination.

A strong fifth house can produce statesmen and politicians as well as athletes, educational and spiritual leaders, and fine artists. The correlation of politics, art and theatre explains why actors can become successful politicians and why politicians possess the skills of actors, for they need dramatic art to hold the public’s interest through an ability to entertain, interest, or excite and incite.

Rahu in 5th house delays child birth and in most of the cases they suffer abortion if any malefic like mars or Saturn aspects Rahu. They beget only female children. If ketu is posited in 5th house, they suffer childlessness for a very long period and they may beget a male child long after 8 years of marriage. If moon or mars is posited in fifth house they beget more female children. If Saturn is posited in 5th house, they may go in for adopted child. For a perfect analysis of progeny, Rasi chart and Sapthamsa chart of both the husband and wife should be analyzed and this cannot be explained here in detail.

It is always good if no planet occupies 5th house (puthra sthana). Even benefic planet like Jupiter in 5th house creates dosha. 5th house is also called as poorva punya sthana. Hence any malefic planet in 5th house indicates the curse we’ve got from our past lives.

It is the house of children, for it indicates our desire to replicate ourselves, either biologically or creatively. It includes offspring and pets, especially those trained to perform for amusement or for sport.

Romantic love, courtship, sexual love as a vehicle for creative self-expression, idealized relationships, very close friends with whom we share our ideals and playful joie de vivre are included here, as are the activities of gambling, taking chances, speculation and investment. The fifth has an affinity with the stock market as well as the racetrack.

The values you impart to your children, lessons you give them, and their rearing. It even rules in part, your childhood.

The 5th house rules entertainment, gambling, games, luck, prizes, inner joy and happiness, affection, performing, popularity, fame, and heroes. Everything you love to do, and that gives you personal pride, and pleasure is a 5th house matter. That special love you feel for your children and your lover are ruled by the 5th house.

Hobbies and your special talents, where your creativity flows are all 5th house ruled! Who you are attracted to, when you will start dating someone, your love affairs and the type of person you are attracted to.It's what you love, what you love to do and More! prosperity and good past life karma are stored in this house.

Your ability to deal with and your reactions to tragic events in your life are also 5th house issues. Deal with your tragedies and prosperity and luck follow as they walk hand in hand. Also, fifth house indicates ancestral assets, love affair, luck in speculation, personal mantra favorable deity etc. weak fifth house and malefic in fifth house spoils the ancestral assets. They also face failures in love affairs. They should also avoid involving in speculation which might put them in to disappointments. Planet in fifth house indicates the type of mantra one would choose to chant and attain perfection (mantra siddhi).

The fifth house can be considered the playing field and the playground. It includes games — the game of life, fun, play, and sports — as fundamental ways of socializing and channeling potentially aggressive urges into a joyous, pleasurable way of interacting with others. It shows hobbies and favorite recreational activities. The fifth house rules the theater and entertainment in general.

Self-expression is the essence of the fifth house. The ability to let loose and play with the enthusiasm, creativity and the freedom of a child is the fifth house in its truest form. It is the first relationship house and so the ego and personality that were developed in the personal houses are presented to others through relationships in the fifth house. Much of this self-expression is experienced through romantic relationships and through having and raising children. Even when the self-expression is carried out alone through creating art, for example, it is at some point noticed or presented to others and their reaction to it becomes a part of the experience.

Part of the courage needed for full self-expression in art or play is the ability to be criticized by others when what is created isn't accepted by them. Overcoming this risk of criticism and creating anyway in a way that is personally sincere is the challange of the fifth house. In this way, the fifth house acts as a mirror to the chart holder. Every experience is reflected back through other people which enables the chart holder to grow and develop. The ability to fully experience fun comes from a person's ability to know and accept themselves and how they affect others. A person who has difficulty experiencing fun can look to their fifth house and see what planets, signs and aspects show about their ability to express the "real them" and relate the "real them" to other people.

In Hindu astrology, the fifth has spiritual significance. It shows specific credit from past-life efforts, which are destined to appear in this lifetime, called poorvapunya. Nearly all world-famous individuals have a powerful fifth house. This house plays a major role in the lives of great saints and religious leaders, for it rules morals, mantras, higher learning, divine wisdom and spiritual techniques.

From a spiritual standpoint, the fifth house is the door through which the Divine Will enters our life when and if we are willing to open ourselves to it. The ego may refuse to answer the call, until, at last, we have learned sincerely to repeat the affirmation, “Thy will be done.“ Then love, joy and creative inspiration flow effortlessly into our lives and through every fiber of our being.

It is considered to be one of the major indicators of one’s life purpose, and the spiritual responsibility connected with this particular incarnation. In a sense, it shows the birthright. A person with a strong fifth house often has a sense of his destiny from an early age.

In esoteric Western astrology, it is the house of the expression of the spiritual will, the Will of God. It represents where and how we begin to actualize the higher self. It shows how we can best express the desire to manifest the spiritual life and consciousness and the activities that stimulate and strengthen the will.

Planets transiting the fifth may bring opportunities for education, romance, and taking up new spiritual studies, new hobbies and creative activities, including the birth of a child.

In synastry, the planets the partner brings to our fifth house may indicate past-life credit owed by them to us or vice versa. For example, a man’s Jupiter coming to his partner’s fifth, may indicate he was married to her before, and happily so, or he was her teacher in spiritual matters. If she, in turn, brings her Jupiter to his fifth, we might say they deserved each other on the basis of past merit. On the other hand, if the planet is Saturn, it might be the chance of many lifetimes to pay off an old and heavy debt through a romantic relationship or a deep friendship, for we have serious lessons to learn about the right use of love and will.

The sign on the cusp of the fifth house and the placement of its ruler shows our vision of creativity and how we express love and choose close friendships. Planets in the fifth house add energy and urgency to creative activities and indicate the artistic talents we have.

Fourth House

The Fourth House is the most private part of the chart. Depending on the house system used, the Immum Coeli (IC), the angle opposite the Midheaven (MC) is contained in the Fourth House, and is frequently also the cusp of the Fourth House.

The Sun is on the IC at midnight (not at 12:00 am, but at the half-way point between sunset and sunrise). This is as dark as it gets. When we’re in the Fourth House, no one can see us; we are completely hidden from the outside world.

The Fourth House generally begins at the lowest point in the chart. If we could look below it, we would be looking off the chart somewhere into the past. This is to do with our roots and origins. What family did we come from, who were our grandparents and ancestors. What have been the issues in our family over the years, what is the family history we are inheriting ?

The 4th house is naturally associated with the sign of Cancer and its ruling planet, the Moon. In the 3rd house we are concerned with communicating with our immediate environment, this leads, in the 4th, to the need to establish a private domain to which we can retreat from the world.

The 4th house represents our roots, both psychological and material. In the psychological sense it is our early family and cultural conditioning, which gives us a sense of belonging, and produces deep inner feelings and habit patterns.

The Fourth House is an Angular House, and is therefore concerned with the question of Identity. The Fourth House is also a “Water House” and is therefore associated with emotional and soul connections.

It is more immediately about our current family, about our Mother and Father about the environment we grew up. Specifically it relates to our Mother. For the child we have been following through the houses, it is how he sees his family around him, what sort of warmth there is in the home, where he lives and whether he feels safe and nurtured there.

Planets in the Fourth House show us how we relate to our family and home and origins. With many planets in the Fourth House much of a persons focus will be taken up with home and family. They may need to isolate themselves away from the Public world to gain strength and remember their roots. They may also have many issues that need resolving in the sphere of the family.

With Jupiter in the Fourth House a person may have or be part of a big family. There is a hint of joy and life about this placement. There is likely to be a lot of emotion and expression and life in this family. With Saturn in the Fourth however the person's family background is likely to have been cold and austere and lacking in love. A person may have been an only child or have had to take on a great deal or responsibility at an early age, possibly acting as a father or mother figure.

The Fourth House is naturally ruled by and parallels the sign of Cancer. It is a watery house and is concerned with the realm of feelings and emotion. Does the child have a tangible feeling off warmth or coldness in this house ? Is a person secure and safe and cared for or do they feel cold and abandoned or neglected ? This is also an indication of how we wish our home to ultimately be for us when we form our own families.

The 4th house signifies mother, education, mental condition, vehicles, house, general happiness, prosperity, property—particularly immovable property. In determining the student's merit in academic career 4th house and its lord play an important role though the disposition of the 5th and 10th lords should not be overlooked.

The Karakas of the 4th bhava are Vrhaspathi, Sukra and Budha of which Vrhaspathi stands for learning and wisdom, and Sukra and Budha for such education that helps the man enjoy material happiness. So, in considering the academic success of a native the Karaka planet's disposition also is to be taken into account.

If the lagnadhipathi is not well-fortified simply favorable disposition of Karaka planets and of the 4th lord cannot give brilliant result in respect of university education. (a) If the 4th lord is favorably posited either in the 4th or in any other favorable house and the favorable planets are situated in any dusthan the native shall not be altogether deprived of good result expected from the 4th house, though the good result will be lessened to some extent.

Modern astrology associates the Fourth House with the Mother, but in classical astrology, the Fourth House belonged to the Father. The Fourth House is associated with our past, with our families, and with our ancestors.

There is a paradox with the Fourth House: at the same time that it is the most private and personal point in the chart, it is also the point in the chart where we are the most connected on a soul level. This is where we can experience the deepest and most fundamental emotional connections: those with our parents, and those with our true soul.

The Fourth House is our foundation. In the Fourth House, we tap into our core strengths; we form our fundamental sense of self, which we then build on. We cannot achieve the success and recognition that we seek in the Tenth House without a strong foundation in the Fourth House.

If you have a number of planets in your Fourth House, this simply means that you will tend to encounter these planets and their associated processes as being fundamental to your identity, particularly to your emotional and soul identity. Your first experience of these planets was very probably through your parents, and until you learned to integrate these planets into your own sense of self, you very probably projected them onto one or both of your parents. In short, your experience of your parents is very closely tied to your experience of these planets.

Learning how to master the planets in your Fourth House is essential if you are to create a stable foundation for your life. When you experience transits to or by these planets, you are likely to experience them as hitting close to home as it were. And finally, you may find that you do not tend to express these planets in obvious and extroverted ways, and that only those who are close to you emotionally (i.e. your family, close friends, romantic partners, etc.) may ever truly directly experience these facets of your personality.

In short, if you have a strong emphasis on your Natal Fourth House, one of your lessons in this lifetime may have to do with building a strong foundation for yourself.

The 4th house in any birth chart has various significations such as house, vehicles, peace of mind, mother etc. Generally most astrologers look at the 4th house with a view to deciphering whether the native will be blessed with comforts and vehicles. A significant aspect of 4th house is attributable to mental peace and inner purity. Generally 6th lord in 4 goes under the name "Kapata Yoga" or yoga for becoming a thief. It generally refers to lack of cohesion in thought, word and deed. Malefics in 4 or aspecting the 4th house make a person deceitful in all dealings and this in turn deprives the native of peace of mind.

Mental stress is caused if the 4th house is aspected by malefics. In medical astrology malefics in 4 can lead to cardiac problems.

To understand the full features of 4th house we need to look at Moon, Mars and Mercury. Moon is the karaka for mother. So Moon and the 4th lord both afflicted lead to deprivation of maternal happiness. The greatest source of joy and comfort in this world is a loving mother. There is a saying that when a person is born, God also designates a "Guardian Angel" to look after that person. We know that a loving mother is the physical equivalent of that Guardian Angel.

When Moon is afflicted, one's mother will not be of any help to the native. So that could be one causative factor for mental anguish. According to Dr. B.V. Raman, "Insanity or madness will not be present unless the Moon and Mercury are involved in heavy afflictions". This is because Moon rules the mind and Mercury rules certain emotions like sense of humour.

Mars is "Bhoomi Karaka", if Mars is afflicted in the 4th, one will be bereft of happiness and also property related dealings will suffer.

To conclude, one will be blessed with peace of mind, happiness and comforts if the 4th house and 4th lord are free of any blamish of any sort. Benefics such as Jupiter or Venus aspecting the 4th house would also give a person, cheerfulness, joy and enthusiasm.Today most doctors all over the world assess a person's state of mind before writing out a prescription.Stress is now considered as a serious causative factor in many psychosomatic disorders. So all afflictions to the 4th need to be reckoned before diagnosis of such disorders is made.

The 4th house together with the opposite house, the 10th, is connected with our experience of our parents. In the material sense it is our own home, from which we go out to meet the world and to which we can retreat to rest and recuperate. As well as representing our early home environment, this house is also connected with the conditions surrounding us during the second half of life.

The opposite House to the Fourth is the Tenth. This is to do with being out in the world and showing our public face, quite the opposite of the insular Fourth House.

The Fourth House is related to beginnings and endings. The Eighth House is said to be the “house of death” but truly the Eighth House only represents the manner of death; the actual death is seen in the Fourth House.

Third House

Courage, Firmness, Bad Thoughts, Breast, Ear (especially right ear ), Prowess, Younger Brother or Sister, Heroism, and Mental Strength.

This house rules one’s mental inclination and ability, memory and the inherent properties of the mind and intellect. The third house indicates inclination to study and the ninth house stands for higher education, research, wisdom and Philosophical tendencies.

The third house rules brothers, sisters and relatives in general. It signifies medicine, food specially fruits, courage, throat, ears, father's death.

While judging the third house the following factors should be looked into viz.,

(a)   The strength or otherwise of the bhava and its lord,
(b)   Planets occupying the bhava,
(c)   Natural indicator of the third bhava.

Besides, general rules to assess the merit or demerit of a bhava or its lord are to be applied which will help the readers arrive at a correct decision. Third house denotes exclusively brothers and sisters. So, we look at brothers and sisters first and subsequently other matters are taken into consideration. If the third house is occupied by very malefic planets or the lord of the third house or the Karaka planet (viz., Mangal) is associated with very unfavorable planet the native loses his brother or sister in his/her childhood.

The third house rules your mind and intellect. It reveals how you approach and analyze problems, and how you perceive information. Basically, it drives your overall learning and communicative processes. For example, this house administers skills in writing, editing, speaking, thinking, reading, and conducting research. It covers your ability and desire to learn, and brings study opportunities your way. Under the influence of this house, someone would decide to learn languages or become a teacher. Other endeavors covered here are the drafting of contracts and agreements, presentation of ideas and proposals, and commerce, including sales, marketing, public relations and self-promotion.

The Third House is commonly referred to as the House of Communication. In this house, much of the communication is going on between the individual and those he or she holds close: brothers and sisters, as well as neighbors. While communication here can be both written and verbal, it also has a conscious quality to it. Think about kindred spirits and mental connections. This serves to highlight the role of intelligence within the Third House.

It rules over a person’s communication and correspondence, short journeys, younger brother or sister, cousins, and neighbors, courage, heroism valor, thoughts, mental strength, inclination and ability, memory and the inherent propensities of the mind and intellect.

The third house is the house of all types of communication, correspondence and information exchange that a person is engaged in by talking, letters, fax, email, television, radio, news, media, phone etc.

It also governs short travel, inland journeys such as travel by cycle, bus, boat, rail and short air travel. It governs younger siblings, all cousins and even neighbors. The third house also governs change of residence.

It deals with the close environment (siblings, colleagues, schoolmates), primary and secondary education, apprenticeship. It also describes short trips, transportation, modern means of communication and all practical things.

This house covers your neighborhood, short-distance trips, and all means of local transportation and shipping.

The parts of the body ruled by the third house are vocal chords, speech, fingers, arms and fingers, hands, shoulder blade, lungs, ears (generally 3rd house rules the right ear and the 11th house rules the left ear) collar bone, respiratory and the nervous system.

As per Mundane or State or Political Astrology, the third house signifies neighboring countries and treaties with them. It rules over transportation and all the means of transit whether it is by land air or water, and the communication system like postal, telegraph, radio, telephone, television and all the media. It also represents libraries and public education generally. It governs all the matters signified by communications, information technology, broadcasting, transport, highways, railways and tourism ministry.

The third house horoscope also indicates physical actions, and transportation, especially within your immediate environment. To a certain extent the third house also describes the job or health of your mother.

The third house, bhratri or ‘brother’, is the house of younger siblings. It also relates to our friends and close companions. The third house is also parakram, which means courage. It reflects our survival skills as the new soul continues its evolution. It relates to our ability to assert ourselves, and communicate effectively in the expanding environment we attract either as younger brothers and sisters arrive on the scene, or we develop relationships with our peers. At this point in our evolution, we may have little or no choice about whether others like or dislike us. If someone dislikes us, we can either endure it or learn to develop the skills to change their perception by establishing a point of contact with them. Through these relationships, we can begin to acquire the attributes of parakram, courage. Additionally, our instinct to care for and protect younger siblings or companions may be awakened.
