Retrogade Motion of Planets

In astrology, a planet in retrograde motion has special significance. The effects that the planets produces when in retrograde motion are far different than the ones they exert while moving directly. In the horoscopes, retrograde planets acquire special power and effects while in retrograde motion at the time of birth. These are known as `Vakri` planets in Hindu astrology.

The Sanskrit name for retrograde planets is known as Vakri. Vakri means twisted, crooked, winding, roundabout, indirect, evasive and ambiguous. Vakragati means retrograde motion. The term retrograde comes from Latin for “backward step.” You’ll hear it a lot in astrology.

A person might be born when certain planets are in the retrograde phase. In such a case, the person tends to internalize the energies represented by the planet or to look within for the expression of the planet’s power rather than investing that power outside of oneself.

Planets from the point of view of the earth will slow down and become stationary. Then they appear to move backward in the sky this motion is known as retrograde motion of the planets. This apparent retrograde movement is due to the motion of the earth’s orbit.

As the Earth passes by a planet that particular planet appears to move backwards i.e. westward, amid the stars, this phenomenon is called retrograde motion, which motion invariably occurs at a time when that planet is visible for a relatively longer period.

The approximate midpoint of which period in respect of the superior planets coincides with opposition and the Earth is between the Sun and that planet. This is an optical illusion where a planet appears to move through the zodiac opposite its usual direction.

The planet only appears to retrograde, actually it does not and in which event if the faster planet is retrograde it can approach the slower planet from a later degree by backward motion which phenomenon is known as - "the applying aspect" in the Western astrology.

Picture the planets orbiting the Sun like a racetrack. Each planet has its own track, a different distance from the Sun, traveling each at different speeds. A retrograde happens when the Earth passes a planet, making that planet appear to slow down, stop and then go in reverse. it appears to be moving backward.

This illusion is like when you are passing a car that's going slower than you are, as you pass it, it seems to go backwards, but it's still traveling at the same speed and in the same direction.

All the Planets in our Solar system appear to stop (this is what is called a "Station")and then start to move backward. After some time they stop again (station)and appear to start to move forward again. Because some planets have faster orbits than others the time they stop and start movement varies from planet to planet.

It is indeed hurtling forward through space, but because the planets do not revolve around us and we are also in motion, sometimes a planet appears to go backwards. In that process, it backs up over a certain range of degrees in the zodiac and ends up passing through that range three times: first forward, then backward and lastly forward again. Thus you will sometimes see mentions of three related time frames for certain influences; circumstances may be related around these times. Usually the second of the three occurrences is the toughest transition, where the planet’s message is most strongly conveyed.

The Sun and the Moon, the two luminaries, do not have Vakra state, they do not acquire retrograde motion, they are always in direct motion, the other five planets (Tara grahas) have Vakra state, they acquire retrograde motion from time to time when they transit from 5th to the 8th house from the Sun.

A planet hemmed between two Vakri grahas behaves as a Vakri graha, this applies to the Moon.Whereas Mars, Jupiter and Saturn appear to retrograde in the signs opposite to the one occupied by the Sun, Mercury and Venus appear to retrograde when they are farthest away from the Sun. Mercury and Venus can never be in the 5th to the 8th house from the Sun.

On the other hands, the two imaginary planets or lunar nodes, Rahu and Ketu, which are not planets but termed as Lunar Nodes in true sense, always have perpetual retrograde motion. Pluto, Neptune and Uranus (not considered in Vedic astrology) also go through the retrograde motion along with Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Mars and Saturn.

Usually the retrograde planets in the natal chart or ephemeris are marked by R or Rx or Ret. Mars R or Jupiter Rx, Ret all indicates that these planets were retrograde at the time of the chart.

Rahu Ketu are forever moving backwards and this has lead to them being described negatively in the classics. But they also have the potential to view everything in a complete different manner and therefore can be quite innovative and make individual reach heights that they never thought they would conquer, by going against the grain.

Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Mars and Saturn turn retrograde at regular intervals. They generally move direct, then for a time period they (appear to) slow down and seem stationary for a long time (Stationary retrograde). At this time their powers are at their highest. Then they move retrograde, giving erratic and more prominent effects. After a particular time span, they again seem to slow down and seem to be stationary (stationary direct). Then they once again acquire a direct motion.

Mercury retrogrades for 21-23 days and is stationary one day before and after.

Venus is retrograde for 40-42 days and is stationary approximately two days before and after. Mars retrogrades for 77-79 days and is stationary 3 to 4 days before and after.
Jupiter retrogrades 115-118 days is stationary 5 days before and after.
Saturn retrogrades for 142-145 days and remains stationary 5 day before and after.

Each planet has it’s own percentage of time when it must retrograde. They are:

Mercury - 6.02 %
Venus - 11.23 %
Mars - 21.36 %
Jupiter - 32.05 %
Saturn - 39.45 %

Whenever a planet starts in a motion other than the normal course, it yields unusual effects as well. In general, the fields ruled by these planets suffer the major influence. For example, communication hazards will be more during Mercury retrograde. Accidents due to rashness will be enhanced during Mars retrograde and so on….

Hence, each planetary retrogression should be considered as a time to be cautious, and to consider things from a different viewpoint.

Suryasiddhanta refers to eight verities of motion of which Vakra, Ativakra and Kutila refer to Vakragati i.e. retrograde motion, when they are believed to be moving away from light, and the remaining five verities viz; manda, manda tara, sama, sighra and atisighra refer to Rujugati i.e. direct motion, when planets are freed from vakragati and are known as Margi grahas that are believed to be moving towards light.

According to Sanketa Nidhi of Ramadayalu when it is retrograde Mars gives the results of the 3rd house from the house of its occupation, Mercury gives the results of the 4th, Jupiter of the 5th, Venus of the 7th and Saturn of the 8th house. Vakri grahas and Paramuchcha grahas no doubt gain superior strength but do not produce identical results and even become over-powered in Grahayuddhas. If the Sun is Arohi a Vakri graha although very strong but because of the variations in its motion does not produce results uniformly.

Situated in their debilitation sign if owning good houses Vakri grahas produce good results, if owning bad houses they give bad results. Phaladeepika holds the view that a retrograde planet in its sign of debilitation is equal to its occupation of exaltation sign, and that exalted retrograde planets act as though they are debilitated. And, excepting the retrograde ones, those planets which occupy unfriendly signs take away 1/3rd of their allotted term of life. Vakra also means Kuja (Mars). Vakri grahas having gained exceptional strength give thrice the term of life allotted to them.

Vakra Asana in Yoga twists the body from back to front. Usually this asana are done to strengthen the spine and make them flexible. The potential of the retrograde planets is to be flexible, to twist thing around, to make them unclear, to teach its message in an indirect way, to view life in a different way to others. By doing it correctly they can strengthen themselves and become adaptable, original, innovative and different. On the negative side they can be twisted thinkers, crooked and dishonest. The individual can deal with the quality of their retrograde planets in a positive manner or can use their potential in a totally negative way. The essence is there to do good or bad in the planet but it is up to the individual to use this in the right way.

If a planet is retrograde in your birth chart, you may face obstacles in that area, In fact, you could find that because you spend more time with these challenges, they actually become strengths. Using Mercury and Venus as examples again, if either of these planets is retrograde in your chart, you may or may not have problems with communication or love. It could take you longer to write papers in school but the time you've spent will make your language skills stronger. You may be unlucky when it comes to relationships and marriage, but when you finally fall in love it's more likely to be the real thing.

When you understand how a retrograde can affect you, either in your birth chart or during normal transits, you can prepare yourself to deal with them.

In the continuing cycles of the planets’ motions, retrograde periods are a time to research, review and re-do, any “re-” word. Our culture likes to pretend that we can move forward in linear progress, but nature tells us everything goes around in a circle or spiral. So sometimes we have to circle around before we go forward again. That’s what retrogrades are good for.

The slower-moving outer planets spend more time retrograde than the quicker-moving inner planets. Even though Mercury Retrograde only lasts three weeks at a time (three times a year), we seem to feel them the most. Possibly that’s because Mercury is in charge of all forms of communications and those touch every area of our lives. Mercury is also associated with all means of local transport. Hence its retrograde times are when we are more likely to be delayed by traffic snarls (allow extra time) or need car repairs (try to anticipate with preventive maintenance). Allow extra time for everything because you’ll need to doublecheck your work.

The five planets Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn express the practical reality of our life. They are the planets that form the Pancha Mahapurusha Yoga that bestows greatness on earth. The rule the Pancha Mahabhutas, the five primary elements that influence our physical body but also sheath the eternal consciousness. These elements control our organs of desires, emotions and senses. They can keep us grounded in gross reality but if we start to use their energy spiritually they become infused with a different power.

To see if you have planets whether are in retrogade, look at your natal chart and find the sign and degree where the retrograde begins and ends. To obtain your natal chart, find out your exact birth time and go to the apt website. You should be able to print your chart from there (or save it to your computer) and access a brief interpretation report.

Planets are retrograde when they are closest to the earth, so think of bringing the planet’s meaning closer to you. The retrograde period is usually a time of relearning lessons related to the planet in question, so sometimes it presents difficulties as part of that lesson-learning.

During a 'retrograde,' the areas of life that the retrograde planet rules will feel crazy until it catches up to Earth again. Each planet exerts influence over certain aspects of life. When a planet goes retrograde, the effects of its influence are reversed. During a Venus retrograde, don't expect love or relationships to come easily.

Once you have your birth chart, you can see what part of it any planet is retrograding over by comparing the degrees of the retrograde range to the houses of your chart. You can also discover if any planets were retrograde at your birth.

When you have a personal consultation, your astrologer can explain the influences in your life of natal and current retrograde planets.

Puthra Dosha

Everyone would like to have son/daughter immediately after the marriage. Those who are affected by Putra dosham may find themselves without any children/ delay in getting the children.

‘Puthra’ means child. The word ‘Dosha’ has several meaning like blemish, mistake, a problem or an imperfection. Putra dosha, the flaw that pertains to children is a very popular term in Vedic Astrology. It comprises of all types of faults that may be related to one’s children as seen from the horoscope.

The Fifth house from Lagna represents progeny. Jupiter is Puthra Karaka. The Lord of the Fifth, and Jupiter, should be placed well to ensure children. The Lord of the 10th is also connected with the native getting a legal heir.

Fifth house is the Puthra sthana (house indicating children) for a male and any malefic planets in this fifth house creates Puthra Dosha (imperfection in child birth) to the native. Jupiter is the puthra karaka(planet indicating children). If the 5th lord, Jupiter and 5th house is affected by malefic planets then the person suffers due to Puthra Dosha mainly due to progeny problems.

Factors indicating Puthra Dosha are the Lord of the Fifth being ill placed, Jupiter in a weak position, and the Fifth house and Jupiter receiving malefic aspects. In such cases, the coming of progeny may be delayed, and even denied. The role of Maha Dasa-s and Bhukthi-s is relevant too. Competent and experienced astrologers can recommend possible ways to overcome the effects of Puthra Dosha found in a horoscope.

For a female both the fifth and ninth house in the horoscope are to be analyzed for the child birth. Usually ninth house is called as Puthra Sthana for women but still, fifth house indicates the nature of womb (ovary) and conception. Any malefic in 5th or ninth house in the horoscope of female creates some problem in child birth.

Rahu in 5th house delays child birth and in most of the cases they suffer abortion if any malefic like mars or Saturn aspects Rahu. They beget only female children. If ketu is posited in 5th house, they suffer childlessness for a very long period and they may beget a male child long after 8 years of marriage. If moon or mars is posited in fifth house they beget more female children. If Saturn is posited in 5th house, they may go in for adopted child. For a perfect analysis of progeny, Rasi chart and Sapthamsa chart of both the husband and wife should be analyzed and this cannot be explained here in detail.

Also, fifth house indicates ancestral assets, love affair, luck in speculation, personal mantra favorable deity etc. weak fifth house and malefic in fifth house spoils the ancestral assets. They also face failures in love affairs. They should also avoid involving in speculation which might put them in to disappointments. Planet in fifth house indicates the type of mantra one would choose to chant and attain perfection (mantra siddhi).

It is always good if no planet occupies 5th house (puthra sthana). Even benefic planet like Jupiter in 5th house creates dosha. 5th house is also called as poorva punya sthana. Hence any malefic planet in 5th house indicates the curse we’ve got from our past lives.

Planet sun indicates curse of father
Moon indicates curse of mother
Mars indicates curse of brother
Mercury indicates curse of maternal uncle
Jupiter indicates curse of god
Saturn indicates curse of departed souls
Venus indicates curse of spouse
Rahu and Ketu indicates curse of serpents

If the fifth house and its lord is affected along with any of the above said planets, one suffers from Puthra dosha due to the curse from the past lives.

Maharishi Parasara in his jyothish text ‘Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra’ has given different planetary combinations that indicate childlessness due to the curse in the horoscope.

The main cause of Putradosha is past life deeds. Putradosha indicates that the person has be unkind to a child or children. Depending on the range of the crime towards children in a past life, the putradosha ranges from mild to heavy in the current birth.

Parents take care of us. In return we cannot take care of the parents in the same way. To pay back, you need to take care of your children because you are the parents to your children. Not taking care of your children is one of the worst crimes possible. Just think of a world where parents do not take care of their children. So taking care of children is the most important duty of the husband and wife.

So it follows that the atonement rituals may include as payback any of the following: either the direct punishment, adoption of children or huge medical expense due to infertility problems.

Medical expenses is part of the punishment. By not taking care of children in a past life the person may have saved a lot of money in a past life. That money has now to be spent on medical treatment. So doctors will become the tax collector in this case. That is why infertility specialists charge a lot of money.

When you throw away something soon you will be needing it. Have you noticed that? So if you throw away or abort children you will in a future birth struggle to have a child.

It is like you do not payback the loan in a bank and soon no bank will help you with a loan in the future. In such cases local money lenders take advantage and punish you more with huge interests.

In short Putradosha like all other dosha is proof that Karma works. Putradosha manifests more than one way.
a) No children

b) If children are born they will become the main cause of concern in your life
c) Children will be thoroughly disobedient.
d) Children may be separated from you. Putradosha will work in tandem with marital problems that are already there in the horoscope trying to separate father and mother so that the child will suffer.
e) Sudden downfall in career – from great heights to nothing

From the above we know that within the term Putradosha – there is a range starting from the highest Putradosha to the lowest Putradosha.

In case the dosha is not severe remedies will work. If the putradosha is too much then remedies will not work.

If you have to assess the level of Putradosha then you have to know a great deal of rules pertaining to problems related to childlessness and serious problems with children.

Common effects of Puthra Dosha:

Delay in child birth
Miscarriages
Birth of female babies alone
Birth of physically or mentally affected child
Children become useless or helpless to parents
Child doesn’t respect or obey parents

If the person has afflicted 5th house, then he suffers due to childlessness. But if he has a strong bagya sthana (house indicating fortune) and karma sthana(house indicating actions), then he begets a child after the age of 40. He’ll be blessed with a karma puthra (child who would performs the final rites to his father) due to his noble actions indicated by 9th and 10th house.

Kalathra Dosha

The word "Kalathra" means the life partner of every person. The word Kalathra means spouse. For males the word "Kalthra" points towards his wife and for the females to their husband.

Among the planets, Venus is the kalathra karaka (planet indicating wife). Among the 12 houses, 7th house is the kalthra sthana (house indicating spouse). Any malefic planet in 7th house creates kalathra dosha. Also, kalathra dosha is created if the 7th lord and venus is afflicted in the birth chart.

Kalathra Dosha means that it indicate trouble ahead in the married life. Kalathra Dosham (Kathira Dosha) can cause delay in marriage it is very hard to find a suitable partner for marriage or can end up in no marrige during the current life. The houses 2, 7 and 11 is considered for judging the Kalathra Dosham on a chart. However 7th house is given paramount importantance. Venus is the Kalathra Karaka in boy's horosocpe and Jupiter is the Kalathra Karaka in girl's horosocpe

Even after the marriage, they lack good understanding and live a separated life. They also lack conjugal bliss which ultimately ends up in divorce. In some cases, the spouse suffers due to health problems and even death may occur in severe cases.

No connection between 2nd, 7th and 11th house can lead to delayed marriage usually. The malefic planet or malefic affliction in 7th house or in 7th lord can create problems in married life. The array of planets affliction with 7th house or 7th lord can cause divorce and re-marriage.

Most of them often takes much care and time to solve the Marriage Porutham puzzle. But the actual villian in the Marriage episode is this Kalathra Dosha. If Boy or Girl's horoscope indicates any form of Kalathra Dosha, that issue has to be addressed before conducying the Marriage.

Common effects of kalathra dosha:

Delay in marriage
Unhappy marital life
Misunderstandings
Lack of conjugal bliss
Separation or divorce
Ill health to spouse
Premature death of spouse

Similarly, 8th house is called as mangalya sthana(house indicating marital tie). Malefic planets in 8th house create Mangalya dosham. Planet Jupiter is called as the mangalya karaka (planet indicating marital tie). If the 8th lord, Jupiter and 8th house is afflicted, then the person faces trouble in marital life due to mangalya dosham. Mangalya dosha will spoil the marriage life either by separating husband and wife by sending someone away from home or else by divorce or by giving death to the husband.

Naga Dosha

Sarpa means Snakes !
Who is not afraid of snakes? So also we are scared about these two, Naga Dosham and Kalasarpa Dosham. But there is no need for such fear. Read this Article, Learn about Naga Dosham, and your fears will take leave of you. If the Girl and Boy horoscopes are matched properly, there is no need to worry.

Sarpa Yoga is also known as Sarpa Dosha or Naga Dosha. It is caused due to wrath of the Serpent God in previous birth. Due to Sarpa Yoga, marriages are delayed or ruined, Progeny may be denied, miscarriages/Abortion will occur.

Sarpa Yoga (Sarp Dosh or Naga Dosha) is different from Kal Sarpa Yoga / Dosha (KSY). Many astrologers/writers have written about Kal Sarpa Yoga/Dosha. Here i will not talk about Kal Sarpa Yoga/Dosha but only about Sarpa /Naga Dosha.

Naga Dosha in the ancient tradition was caused from a previous birth when either you or your ancestors killed or harmed snakes instead of revering and respecting them. Snakes, called “Naga”, are mystical and powerful. They can grant you great boons or curses respectively. Snakes are also closely associated with Kundalini and many forms of the Goddess. Vindictiveness against or mistreatment of women, particularly spiritual women in practice of enlightenment or other psychic pursuits, also generate a Snake curse on you and future generations. Severe negativity or blasphemy against Goddess worship can likewise cause Naga Dosha.

Sarpa Dosha delays marriage and also delays progeny/children. Let us examine planetary combinations in the birth chart indicating Sarpa Dosh / Naga Dosha.

When Ketu or Rahu is placed in 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th or 8th house Indicate Sarpa Dosha / Naga Dosha.

Women suffering from Sarpa/Naga Dosha will have children after conducting Pooja of Naga Devatha.

When Ketu or Rahu is placed in 1st or 2nd House, Indicate delay in marriage, If the person is married, creates problems in family life and sometimes leads to divorce or separation.

Ketu or Rahu in 5th house leads to delay in getting children/Progeny and also leads to abortions. Also Rahu aspect on 5th house also indicates Sarpa/Naga Dosha. Naga Prathistapana at any Naga temple should be done for getting children.

Ketu or Rahu in 7th house Leads to problems in family life, misunderstandings, frequent quarrels, wife/Husband will have Health problems etc.

Ketu or Rahu in 8th house Indicate Health problems of wife or Husband, skin disease etc. The person suffering from Sarpa/Naga dosha will see Snakes/Serpents in their dream. That is a clear Indication of Sarpa dosha.

While this explains the source of Naga Dosha, it is understood that you are not the same person now. Nevertheless, the effects from your prior births or prior generations are impacting you now.

HOW TO IDENTIFY NAGA DOSHAM IN A HOROSCOPE.

Kala Sarpa Dosha

“Kala” means time,“Sarpa” means Serpent and “Yoga” means combination. So Kala Sarpa Yoga means that the soul is caught by the Serpent of time within the axis of Karma. It reflects unusual and unexpected life-situations experienced by a person, according to his Karma of the previous birth.

The Kala Sarpa Yoga is a combination of two words namely the Kala and Sarpa. Kala means the time personified. It is the time which is responsible for bringing out the changes in this phenomenal world. Kala also implies death of the individual of the phenomenon. The Sarpa means the serpent. When the serpent bites the person dies a silent death. The death is nothing but a reorganization of various elements of nature.

As per hindu mythological stories, head of snake is called as Rahu, tail of snake is called as ketu. They both are placed opposite to each other at 180 degree and never meet together. rahu and ketu are shadow planets. They do not have any solid form and can neither be seen through naked eye or through telescopes.

It is formed when all 7 planets considered in Vedic Astrology (Sun, Moon, Mars, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury) are placed between Rahu (Moon's North Node) and Ketu (Moon's South Node) in the natal chart.

If all the seven planets are placed in between ketu and Rahu then it is called as kala amrita yoga. Not much detail about this yoga is given in any of the famous jyothish scripts. It seems this yoga has been inserted in the medieval period by some jyothish experts.

Kalasarpa yoga is considered to be one of the not so good Nabhasa Yogas. This is sometimes associated with physical deformity or moral weakness, misfortunes, deceit and treason. The positive qualities of this Yoga are that, the native can acquire a capacity to do arduous work, with exceptional success in the fields of studies, administrations, philosophy etc. Moreover one can fulfill his desires of his life, either in the materialistic concept or in the spiritual scope.

Kala Sarpa Yoga is defined by the following sloka.

Agre rahur atho kethu, Sarve Madhya gata graham| Yogam Kalasarpakhyam,Nripa Sasya Vinasanam||

According to the above sloka “ Rahu must be ahead of the Ascendant and Ketu behind it; all the planets should occupy between them; no planet should be in conjunction with Rahu or Ketu . This is a definition for Kalasarpa Yoga.

Sarvanabho gasthishta thiyagu Sikhino, Anthrala rasigatha| 'Malyavadanthara rahithah Yatha thatha Kalasarpa Yogasyala ||

Anuloma vilomathkala Dwidhoyam Kalasarpayogascha| Anthoykthasch anistom karithi Poorvo maha subada||

Sampoorna sakala vibhavaha Samastha Nripavandhithakhri Kamalayuga| Rajadhi Raja Rajo Virajathee Kalasarpa Yoga bhava||

From the above sloka, we can understand that: All the planets must be placed a between Rahu and Ketu continuously, forming a chain without any break. Only this formation can be taken as the Kalasarpa yoga.

The Ascendant can either be within the chain or outside the chain Either Rahu or Ketu can occupy the lagna. So the lagna has nothing to do with the formation of the Kalasarpa yoga. The yoga is of two kinds; one is called the “Anuloma” and the other the “Viloma” The “Anuloma” type produces excellent results, whereas the “Viloma” type produces undesirable results. In Anuloma type, Rahu is ahead within the six rasis from the lagna and Ketu occupies a position behind all the planets. Here, one will acquire higher position with all beneficent results. In Viloma type, Ketu is ahead within the six rasis from the lagna and Rahu is posited behind all the planets. Here, one will suffer the maximum and lose his benefits.

When all the planets are located or locked up between Rahu and Ketu, the planets can arrange themselves in various possible positions to activate the Kalasarpa yoga. Such conditions can be briefly mentioned as follows:

If the Sun is in the 8th house from Rahu, or When Rahu or Ketu is in the 8th house from Moon, Kalasarpa Yoga is activated. The Kalasarpa Yoga is predominant, when Rahu or Ketu is located in the 6th, 7th, and 8th house from the ascendant. When Rahu or Ketu is in Kendras, the adverse effect of the Kalasarpa yoga is greater. When Rahu or Ketu is in Trikona, the good effects of the Kalasarpa yoga predominant. Depending upon the movement of the planets either towards Rahu or Ketu, the yoga is named either as Kalasarpa yoga or Kalamrita Yoga.

Both the Yogas are formed, when all the planets are suitably located between Rahu and Ketu . Some astrologers consider Kalasarpa Yoga is Viloma type of Yoga and Kalamritha Yoga as Anuloma type of Yoga. In Southern states of India, yet one more condition is given. When Rahu goes towards its exaltation position, and the other planets follow suit, it is said to be a benefic yoga, giving good results to the native; on the other hand if Rahu goes towards its debilitated position followed by other planets, it is said to be a malefic yoga, giving bad results to the native.

One school of thought says that when lagna, Sun, Moon or any one of the planets is away from the sequence of Kalasarpa arrangement, the yoga is said to be nullified, but another school of thought insists that there will be nullification, only when two or more above said factors are away from such arrangement. So conceptually, it has been accepted that occupation of the planet between Rahu and Ketu is the essential condition for the Kalasarpa Yoga.

Since the Nodes of the Moon are associated with Karmic attributes, the yoga inflicts certain restrictions over a natal chart. It expresses karmic nemesis.

The Kalasarpa Yoga will be mostly operative between the ages of 39 and 45 years.

When the Lagna is not included in the yoga and goes out of the axis of Rahu and Ketu, lesser will be the adverse effect.

Kalasarpa yoga is not like other yogas generally formed by the combinations of Mars, Sun or Moon, producing enrichment or penury. The encirclement of all the planets in the natal chart by the two nodes makes the individual to enjoy the fruits of previous Karma. If a person suffers at the present birth due to the bad deeds of the previous birth (Sanchita Karma) and do good at this birth (good Prarabdha Karma), with Kalasarpa yoga being present in the horoscope, then the suffering in the present birth will be gradually changed into good. The native will have good worldly life with spouse and children.

It has been found that if Rahu or Ketu conjoins with any planet either in the ascendant or in the 7th house from the lagna, a partial cancellation of the yoga occurs, which results in Raja Yoga at the respective attributed house. The native will enjoy either good or bad according to the dispositions of the lords of the ascendant and the 7th house in the natal horoscope.

The impact of the Kalasarpa Yoga is greatly minimized, if three or more planets are exalted or in parivartana or the lords of the 2nd, 4th, 9th and 10th occupy the Trikona or Kendra houses, without debilitation, inimical positions or aspected by malefics.

Kalasarpa yoga formed during the transits of Rahu and Ketu plays a vital role in the mundane affairs, generally causing unexpected natural havocs and calamities. According to Vedic astrology, the Kalasarpa yoga does not include the influence of the outer planets like Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.

Kalasarpa yoga stops other good yogas in the horoscope to give its fruitful effects to the native. Anybody affected by kala sarpa yoga faces lot of problems untill the age of 35. they face lot of mental restlessness, pessimistic thoughts and instability in life. They often see snakes in their dreams. They struggle a lot to make their life stable. They get deceived by near and dear ones. Few get seperated from their family and move away from their native place. Particularly if he gets rahu or ketu dasha, he faces lot of mental problems. some get addicted to bad habbits or involve in unlawful activities. Even their close friends and relatives might deceive them. He will face lot of troubles and will have to strive hard to settle in the first half of his life.

One, need not fear this yoga because the negative effects completely gets reduced over time. the other good yogas in horoscope will work in the second half of the life. They’ll involve themselves in spirituality. They’ll get good name and fame in society. They’ll be blessed with good health and wealth.

Rahu and Ketu are considered to be the two parts of the demon Rahu lying axially in opposite directions and dividing the zodiac in two equal parts. When all the planets lie on one side of the axis the configuration is Kala Sarpa Yoga. Some are of the opinion that Rahu should invariably be in the first six signs of the birth chart. If the ascendant id Virgo, rahu should falls in the signs Cancer to Leo, Another implication of this is that there should be no planet in the signs occupied by the nodes. There are still others who hold that we should include the three extra Saturnian planets Uranus, Neptune and Pluto also. Some eminent astrologers believe that the Kala Sarpa Yoga if formed when the planets are on one side of the axis and that is immaterial whether some of them are with Rahu or Ketu irrespective the houses occupied by them.

The only restriction to them is that the longitudes of the planets should not exceed the longitudes of the nodes. According to our modest experience, the Yoga is formed and does not have its effect irrespective of the houses occupied by the nodes, for Rahu is the Karmik agent (outlet/distribution) and its position is immaterial in the birth chart.

The study of the Kala Sarpa Yoga indicates that the Yoga is not particular for a class or society. It may appear in the charts of very ordinary as well as of dignifies persons. This may mean some important diversion in the course of their lives. The reason may be different for different persons. The world is an integrated whole. A change at one place shall have its effects on some other parts of the world. As a Rudra Rahu has to oversee the operation of the law of evolution as well as the law of the Karmas and retribution.
